A short story on how this all came about:

This is a team put together from the great minds of Cam Fondren and Dennis Thompson. We had the urge to get this team together after Cam had to take a season off from the Bellevue Blast of D3 and wanted to get back into the GMSA. Dennis was still playing with Bellevue at the time. In the Spring of 99, because of scheduling conflicts, Bellevue had to leave the league after being D3 City Champs two consecutive years. So Cam and Dennis got together, and had enough committments, and thus started this team. So we started out as Bartlett Baptist.

Spring 1999

This was our first season together as a team. We played in the Bartlett AYSO league. There were only 4 teams in this league and they were all new. This was also a new league. Games were played on fields smaller than what we were use to. We played very well together. There was only 1 team that ever challenged us, and all 3 games with them were all hard fought with the outcome being a a win for us 2 out of the 3 hard fought contests. We ended the year 9-2 and as the Unofficial Bartlett City Champs.

Fall 1999

We decided to play where the big boys play. Personally, it was nice to get back into the GMSA having the spring off. We anticipated an average season. Little did we know all the problems we would have or how much the competition had improved in the past year. We started our GMSA career in Division 3. The season was marred with many injuries, bad play, and no subs. We only had about 7 players returning and picked about another 7 more. We had some flashes of what our team should be like but it just didn't seem to work out this season. Plain and simple, a season I wish we could just forget. We ended the season 0-9-1 in last place and lost in the first round of the City Championship to the Rowdies.

Spring 2000

After the fall we knew that we need some big time changes to become competitive again. We changed our name to Bumrushers to reflect the pressure we were going to put on the opposition. GMSA created a D4 and we were in it. We had 6 players returning from the fall, and 2 returning from our team in Spring 1999. Four of our players from the fall branched out and started their own team. Once again we had an overhaul of talent. We picked up 7 new players yet again. The difference was the players we picked up were better than what we had lost the year before, by a long shot. We dropped a couple of players at the first of the year but picked up some much needed talent in the midfield and defense. This so far has been the best team in our short existence. We had a chance to win every single game except one, when we only had 9 players. We played well in every game. Except with the last couple of games with guys being lazy and not showing up, we actually had a sub or 2 per game. Although that is not enough. We ended the year 2-5-3 and losing in the first round to the Vietnamese FC in the Challenge Cup. We played well that game but came out on the losing end. We lost 4 games by 2 goals and the other one was with 9 players, so it doesn't count. That alone shows how close we were to winning or tying each game. Just some untimely mistakes were capitalized on turning a potential great season into a mediocre one. A much better season than the Fall.

Fall 2000

This was a turning point in our existence. We ended the year 5-1-4 and in third place. The top 4 teams for D4 were separated by a single point. Its kinda strange to end the year with only 1 loss and still not win the division. But we did it!!! We had a great team this year. We were one of the top scoring teams in GMSA also and had one of the best goals against. We had subs this year. It was great to have them. This year we only had 1 injury that kept someone from playing. All around it was a good year. We picked up 7 new players again. For the Fall we are looking to pick up maybe the same amount of players. Although we still have the Challenge Cup left to play this season, it has been a success. Chances are in the Spring we might be promoted to D3 with teams folding and such. We hope that we can get back up there and show that we belong.
See you soon.

Spring 2001

Coming into this season, we are having to re-tool again. Not only staying put in D4 we also lost 5 players to other teams and 3 others to not playing at all leaves us with just 1 over half of our team returning. To boot we even changed our name from a sexual undertone to a non-sexual Memphis Shock. If your gonna play our team this year, get ready for a track meet. We got some speed demons, and best, they’ve got skill to go with it. We are a different team from last year when we had slower players in the middle. Our first time playing together we beat a D3 team 3-0. Our second time together in the Challenge Cup game we lost to a D1 team only 4-0. Things look bright for the season. With speed, talent, and youth, we look like one of the teams to beat and get promoted. Maybe at the end of this season if somehow we don’t win we will show enough power to get promoted to D3. Let’s run the table.

Well, we didn’t completely run the table. We ended the regular season 8-0-2. We did lose in the first round of the D4 Tournament to Arirang in a good hard fought game. We had a great season. We ended the whole season at 8-2-2. Out of 12 total games half of those were shutouts. The defense this season was amazing. We felt that if we scored only 1 goal, we would win. And we did! After last season we were aching to get promoted, and with the personnel we picked up they helped us reach that next step. Hello D3, here comes the Memphis Shock!!!

Fall 2001

Here we are back in D3. With 12 returning players the season is looking good. We did pick up 6 guys who we feel will help us out. We also know that being in a new division is going to be rough with the better teams. Well, we are looking forward to the challenge. We might not finish first, but believe me when I say that we are going to be very tough to beat. I don’t think we will be the team to get demoted either. All I gotta say is, we are out of D4. Good luck to everyone and I hope that we keep the injuries to a bare minimum.

Although we started out the season extremely slow, we came on strong in the 2nd half. Going 3-1-1 in our last 5 games pushed us up to 4th in the standings. Once again our defense was superior not allowing many goals in. Of our loses, only 1 loss was by more than 1 goal with a score of 2-0. So we were in every game. Our second time in D3 has been much better than the first and we look forward to continuing the success.

Spring 2002

Going into this season we had our minds set on 1 thing, to win our division. We had a few players who had to take time off and some others that had to be let go. So again we were making many personnel changes. In the end, it turned out to be a good thing. We did win our division, but not without our critics. We started out so well that we won our division by the end of our 7th game. After that we lost the last 3, but not without a fight. This made the critics come out in full force. But no matter what they had to say, all we had to do was point to the standings and say we took care of what we had to early. One thing from this season that needs to change in our attitudes. Leading the division in cards is not what we want to do. Overall, another championship season and looking forward to the challenge of D2.

Fall 2002

Our team was in uncharted waters. This was our first time out of the lower divisions and into the more skilled players. Our goal this year was to finish at least 5th out of 7 teams. We didn’t know what to expect. There were 2 new teams starting in our division who no one knew anything about other than rumors through the grapevine. One team lived up to that reputation. We started the first game of the season off about as bad as you could’ve allowing a goal 1 minute into the game. And then a second less than 20 minutes later. But in the end, we came out the victor’s by the score of 3-2. We figured if we played that well that game that we could compete. And compete we did. We ended up going 6-1-3 for the year and ending up in 2nd place to Inter United FC. Even though our only loss was to Inter, we still had a chance to beat them until the very end. Our attitudes were MUCH MUCH better, cutting our cards from 24 to 13. And we played very well this season. A very successful and surprising season for us. The success of this season will make us shoot for higher ground in the Fall.

Spring 2003

At the present time, we will have about 15 players returning from our team last season. This is a very high number and is good for us because we have played so much together we know each others game. A very high and even a possible championship is what we expect for this season. Hopefully we will be able to live up to those expectations.
